Marco Elpidio Takes the Star in MFL

The Mexican beat Venezuelan Leonardo Blasco to be crowned the promoter's first welterweight champion in his debut event

The experienced Mexican fighter Marco 'Roca' Elpidio He became the first welterweight champion after beating the Venezuelan for the third time Leonardo Blasco(25-9) at the opening event of the MFL promoter.

The performance held in the Urban Room near Mexico City included 11 professional fights and closed with Elpidio's victory by technical knockout against Blasco.

Elpidio, 32, started aggressively in all three rounds and threw long combinations that hurt, but Blasco, who had been on a four-win streak, was able to take the fight to the canvas a couple of times to contain the attacks and seek a favorable position to subdue.

That was not the case and at the start of the third Elpidio connected him to the fence and left him injured. When there were two minutes left, I took a higher position on the canvas and began to hurt constantly with hammer blows until the intervention of referee Miguel Fox.

Elpidio had faced Blasco twice in lightweight with victories in the promoters Budo Sento and UWC in Tijuana.

In the co-star, another Mexican veteran took the victory in a long rivalry, becauseRicardo 'Woody' Chavez (27-21) beats Argentinian Tony Gordillo (18-8-1) by unanimous decision in the middleweight in the fifth fight between the two.

Chávez controlled most of the fight standing against a Gordillo who sought to bring him to the clinch cage and who also had moments of damage in the exchange.

It was Chávez's third win against Gordillo, who beat him twice in 2023.
